One of the ways in which we measure learning gains at Huddersfield Town Study Centre is by using Ezclickpro. Pupils are given a 12 question entry test at the end of their first visit to the centre. The test is based upon SATs practice questions and is clearly focused on key aspects of the learning programme that the pupils are about to follow. Pupils subsequently sit an exit test at the end of their last session. The questions in the exit test are similarly worded and of an equivalent level of difficulty to those in the entry test, (see examples below). An accurate measure of pupil learning gains can thus be made.
The need to assess pupil learning gains whilst attending the study centre is one of the demands made of us by the Department of Education and Skills. The advantage of using the Ezclickpro system is that pupils do not need to sit formally in rows of tables and in silence. We thus maintain the ethos of the study centre as being 'not like school' whilst at the same time accurately assessing pupil attainment. Indeed, pupils thoroughly enjoy using Ezclickpro and actually look forward to being tested. Another advantage of using Ezclickpro is that pupils actually take pleasure in keeping their answers a secret and in thus maintaining the accuracy of the system and in preventing cheating.
